Endotoxins & Dermal Fillers Q&A

What are endotoxins and dermal fillers?

Endotoxins and dermal fillers are aesthetic treatments that reduce wrinkles. Upon injection, endotoxins like Botox©, Dysport©, and Xeomin© temporarily paralyze the muscles to relax the creased skin on top, while dermal fillers use gel-like substances to fill in areas of lost volume.

How are endotoxins and dermal fillers different?

While endotoxins and dermal fillers both treat wrinkles, they serve different functions. Endotoxins primarily treat dynamic wrinkles, which form over time from repeated muscle movement.

Meanwhile, because dermal fillers use gel-like substances to fill in wrinkles and plump-up saggy skin, they’re best suited for static wrinkles — those that develop from fat and volume loss.

During your initial consultation at ANU Medspa, the team can decide which treatment is right for you.

What can endotoxins and dermal fillers treat?

Endotoxins primarily treat the upper one-third of your face, where you’re most expressive. They can:

  • Soften forehead lines
  • Reduce crow’s feet
  • Improve frown lines
  • Minimize bunny lines
  • Lift lax eyebrows
  • Reduce under-eye lines

Some endotoxins, such as Botox, can also minimize excessive sweating and chronic migraines.

Dermal fillers typically treat the lower half of your face, where you experience volume loss the most. Deep nasolabial folds, saggy jowls, thin lips, and hollow cheeks can significantly benefit from dermal filler injections.

What are the different types of endotoxins and dermal fillers?

ANU Medspa offers several different types of endotoxins and dermal fillers, including:

Botox

Botox is an FDA-approved endotoxin that treats moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. A single 10-minute treatment can last for four months or longer.

Dysport

Similar to Botox, Dysport treats moderate to severe lines between the brows, particularly stubborn glabellar lines, in adults under the age of 65.

Xeomin

Xeomin can smooth out moderate to severe lines between the brows for 3-6 months with a single treatment.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that provides instant results for smoothing out nasolabial folds, lip lines, and smile lines. Results can last up to one year with maintenance treatments.

Voluma®

Juvéderm Voluma is an injectable that can restore volume in the midface and cheeks.

Restylane®

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid-based filler line that can improve facial volume and reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and folds.

Restylane, Restylane-L®, and Restylane Silk are the only products FDA-approved for lip enhancement in patients over the age of 21.

Bellafill®

Bellafill uses polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres suspended in collagen gel to restore lost volume while stimulating your natural collagen production.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a filler that builds the skin tissue in your face. With maintenance treatments, Radiesse can last for 12-18 months.

Revanesse Versa®

Revanesse Versa treats deep nasolabial folds and wrinkles and creases near the corners of your mouth.
