You have always been a little particular about how you look. It is only natural for you to want people to always see you at your best. So, when you started developing varicose veins on your legs, this was a source of major concern. You did not want your friends to know that you were having this issue. To avoid this becoming a problem, you started covering up your legs so that no one would ever know what was going on with your veins. Fortunately, you learned about a procedure called sclerotherapy that can erase the visible lines caused by the formation of problematic veins. You started to think that maybe you could get the procedure done without anyone knowing you ever had a problem in the first place. You may be able to do just that when you visit us at our office in the Oklahoma City area!
What Causes the Veins to Appear in the First Place?
Varicose veins are a condition that plagues women more often than men. It is typically caused by some kind of stress on the legs, such as chronic prolonged standing, that weakens the valves in the veins. These valves, known as incompetent valves, do not properly prevent blood from back-flowing and pooling inside the vein on its way back to the heart. Consequently, the vein will start to swell and even get inflamed in some cases. This is when the lines start to become noticeable.
How Sclerotherapy Works to Resolve the Problem
In simple terms, sclerotherapy, which is often used to treat varicose veins and spider veins in the legs, is a procedure where a special solution is injected into the vein. This solution will irritate and scar the inside of the vein. The point of doing this is to prevent blood from being able to take this pathway back to the heart. In time, your body will absorb the dead vein as waste and remove it accordingly.
The initial time-frame after receiving sclerotherapy is important. You will need to move around after the procedure to prevent clotting from occurring, but for the most part, the procedure is both quick and easy with few side effects, if any, in most people in Oklahoma City.
